Real Stories
How Working People Balance Training
Marcus, Single Parent
Working retail at Target, $17/hr. Two kids, ages 8 and 11. Wants to provide better.
The Challenge:
"I can't afford to quit my job. Can't pay for daycare in the evenings."
How Evening Works:
Marcus keeps his Target shifts (pays the bills). Kids are home by 7pm β his mom watches them from 4-10:30pm for Zoom classes 4 nights/week. Weekends, he does clinical Saturday-Sunday mornings while mom watches the kids. Six weeks later: CNA license, $23/hr hospital job, same schedule his kids go to school.
Priya, Career Changer
Corporate admin, $18/hr. Burned out. Ready for healthcare but can't afford a salary cut.
The Challenge:
"If I quit my job to train, I can't pay rent. I need income during training."
How Evening Works:
Priya stays at her admin job 9-4pm. Evening Zoom classes 4-10:30pm (sometimes takes one day off per week). Saturday clinicals only. By week 6, she's done. WIOA paid the $2,995 tuition. She interviews at Kaiser and lands a CNA job at $24/hr starting 3 weeks after passing her state exam.
Jordan, College Student
Junior at Cal State, pre-nursing. Wants clinical experience to strengthen med school apps.
The Challenge:
"My classes are 9am-1pm. I work at Whole Foods 2-8pm to pay tuition. No full-time program fits."
How Evening Works:
Jordan takes spring semester off from Whole Foods. Evening Zoom classes fit between college and previous work schedule. Weekend clinicals on campus (his college doesn't conflict). CNA cert + 102 clinical hours look incredible on his med school application. Employers love hiring CNAs in college.
Frequently Asked Questions
Questions about evening CNA training? We've got answers.
Can I work while taking evening CNA classes?+
Yes. LMCC's evening program is specifically designed for working adults. Theory is taught online from 4pm-10:30pm, allowing you to work day shifts. Clinical training happens on weekends at partner facilities.
How long do evening CNA classes take?+
The CNA program takes 31 calendar days total. For evening students: 10 days of online theory (4pm-10:30pm, Mon-Fri) + 21 days of weekend clinical training. You can complete the program in roughly 6-7 weeks depending on your clinical facility schedule.
Are clinicals really on weekends?+
Clinical training is flexible. Many evening students do weekend clinicals, but we work with partner facilities to accommodate your schedule. Some facilities offer Saturday-Sunday blocks, others have mixed weekday-weekend options. We'll find a fit during enrollment.
What if I can't do weekends?+
If weekend clinicals don't work, consider our AM session (8am-2:30pm) or speak with enrollment about alternative clinical scheduling. Call (909) 625-8050 to discuss your specific situation.
Is the evening program cheaper?+
No -- tuition is $2,995 regardless of morning or evening session. Both AM and PM students qualify for WIOA funding if eligible (covering 100% tuition). The difference is flexibility and timing, not cost.
Do I still get 95% pass rate in evening classes?+
Yes. LMCC's 95% state exam pass rate is consistent across all sessions. Evening students receive the same curriculum, instructor quality, clinical supervision, and exam prep. Success depends on effort, not timing.
